About Our Organization

Lincoln High School is Kansas City's historically black public school, known today as Lincoln College Preparatory Academy. Lincoln High School is weaved into the history of Kansas City's African American community. The school has a long and varied history.

After occupying several locations, over many years, the school  finally found its home at its present location in 1936. One of the buildings Lincoln occupied was located at 19th. and Tracy. After moving to its present location the former Lincoln was renamed in honor of Professor Richard Thomas Coles. Professor Coles was a long time educator in the Kansas City Missouri School District. Thus the name of the National Alumni Association includes the recognition of R.T. Coles Jr. High and Vocational School.

This is just a very brief history of why the Alumni was formed, to give recognition, to two very great and meaningful institutions here in Kansas City, Missouri

The Lincoln High/R.T. Coles National Alumni Association was formed forty (40) years ago, by former alumnus.

The purpose of the alumni was to bring former graduates together every two (2) years to re-establish those friendships gained in high school. It was further thought, how nice it would be, to be able, to offer scholarship assistance. The organization is a not-for-profit, (501-c3) and has helped many students with scholarship assistance.
